Cinque Terre Boat Tour for Cruise Passengers Docking in La Spezia
Most ships calling on this stretch of the Ligurian coast dock at Porto di La Spezia. Cinque Terre itself has no cruise berth, so if you want to see the five villages from the water, you travel to them. The trip is straightforward, but it takes longer than people expect, and the timing is what decides whether the day works or not.
Our boat leaves from the Molo dei Pescatori in Monterosso al Mare, and only from there. We do not collect guests in La Spezia harbour, and we do not meet you in another village. Everything below is written around that one fact.
Getting from the cruise terminal to the pier in Monterosso
From the cruise terminal you first need to reach La Spezia Centrale station, either on the shuttle your ship provides or by taxi. Shuttle frequency varies by ship and by day, so this is the least predictable part of the journey. From Centrale, a direct regional train on the Cinque Terre line reaches Monterosso in about twenty minutes. From Monterosso station it is roughly a five minute walk along the seafront to the fishermen's pier.
The train ride is short. The waiting is not always. Regional trains here are crowded in summer, they can run late, and the platform fills up quickly in the morning. Count on something closer to an hour and a half from your cabin to the pier rather than the thirty minutes the timetable suggests, and give yourself the same margin on the way back.
The return leg is the one to be careful with. Do not pick the last train that could theoretically get you back before all-aboard time. Pick the one before it. If that train is delayed, or too full to board, the next may be half an hour away, and the ship will not wait. When you work backwards from all-aboard, subtracting the walk, the train, the shuttle and a cushion, you usually have less usable time in Monterosso than you assumed.
Which tour realistically fits a cruise day
The Five Villages tour is the one that fits a port call most comfortably. Two hours, departing at 10:00, private for up to six guests, 400 euro for the whole boat. You see the full line of villages from the water and you are back at the pier around midday, with time to eat something and take a train with room to spare.
Coast & Coves is three hours and leaves at 14:00, 550 euro private, up to six guests. It can work when a ship stays late, but it returns you to the pier in the early evening, so check your all-aboard time before committing.
Portovenere is about five hours, 850 euro private, up to six. It is a fine trip, but for most cruise calls it is too tight. Five hours on the water plus travel on both sides leaves almost no margin for a late train. If your ship is in port for an unusually long day, write to us with your times and we will look at the numbers with you. Otherwise the two hour trip is the honest recommendation.
Sunset Aperitivo, our shared trip at 18:00, is 100 euro per guest for up to seventeen people, with wine on board. It suits overnight calls only.
Booking a day you do not fully control
There is no prepayment. You book a slot, and you settle on the day. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before departure, which matters more for cruise guests than for anyone else, because your schedule is decided by the ship and not by you. Booking early costs you nothing and keeps the morning slot, which is the one that sells out first in July and August.
If the sea turns heavy, what we call a mareggiata, we cancel and you pay nothing. Snorkel masks and life jackets are on board. Captain Benedetto has worked these waters for forty years and knows when it is sensible to go out and when it is not.
